Lula De Silva: US, Russia Have No Moral Authority to Stop Iran from Building A-Bomb

Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, during a press conference in Berlin, this Thursday, December 3, suggested that the US and Russia should first get rid of their nuclear arsenals before trying to prevent Iran from building its own atomic bomb.

Lula also argued that the international community should have patience with Iran and keep negotiating with that country on nuclear matters.

The Brazilian leader made his comments alongside German chancellor, Angela Merkel, soon after she talked about losing patience with Teheran due to the lack of objective results in the negotiations with the country, which have been dragging for four years.

“The best and the cheapest for all of us is to believe in negotiations and have lots of patience,” said Lula. “I think that to deal with Iran as if it were an insignificant country, increasing every day the pressure over Iran, might not result in a good thing. As Iran is a country with very strong culture, 80 million inhabitants and very serious domestic problems, we need to increase the patience level in order to increase the conversation level with Iran.”

Germany stunned by goalkeeper's 'suicide'

Tributes are being paid as the world of football mourns Germany goalkeeper Robert Enke, who has died after being hit by a train in an apparent suicide.

Enke, 32, was struck by a train at a level crossing near Hanover.

Oliver Bierhoff, the German football team’s general manager, said: “We are all shocked. We are lost for words.”

Germany cancelled a planned training session and all interviews after the death of the Hannover 96 player, who is said to have suffered from depression.

Enke’s daughter Lara died aged two in 2006 of a rare heart condition, and he is thought to have struggled to cope with the loss.

A tasteless advertisement featuring Adolf Hitler having sex has been condemned by HIV charities.

The steamy advert, filmed by a German charity, features the couple having sex - but only at the end is the man revealed to be Hitler.

The ad - produced in German, Spanish and English versions - also features mocked-up posters of Josef Stalin and Saddam Hussein having sex with naked women.

The tagline reads: ‘Aids is a mass murderer’. It is set to be shown on German television next week.

Aids-awareness charity Regenbogen e.V. said it wants to shake people up by linking Aids with mass murder, citing figures that show Aids has killed 30 million people worldwide.

President Nicolas Sarkozy has pulled out of his opinion poll tailspin thanks to the popularity of his new wife Carla Bruni.

The LH2 poll in Liberation newspaper said Sarkozy’s approval ratings climbed to 40 percent in March against 37 percent in February, ending a three month slump in support after the couple’s recent visit to Britain.

The survey was carried out on March 28 and 29, just after their UK state visit that was full of pomp and ceremony.
